missionJesus gives us a promise and a command before He ascended: Acts 1:8, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Every follower of Christ is a witness and has a mission. Mark 16:15, "And he said to them, "Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation." It is our goal at San Gabriel to be involved in local mission and outside of our local area. This also involves serving the poor and the needy, which gives us a greater opportunity to share the gospel.

ministryJesus said in John 13:34, "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another." Loving one another is ministry. We, as the church and as the body of Christ, are representatives of Christ's love to this world. When we share with one another, care for one another, serve one another, pray for one another, support one another, help one another, encourage one another – basically love one another, we are demonstrating to the world what God is like – that God is love. Loving one another is one of the most important purposes of human life and the life of this church. At San Gabriel, we want to give you an opportunity to serve and love one another with your unique gifts and abilities.

DISCIPLESHIP PDF  | Print |  E-mail

discipleshipOne of Jesus' most important statements to the church was the Great Commission. Matthew 28:19, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Discipleship is at the heart of our calling in life. Being a Christian means being a disciple. It means that our life begins to mirror and match Jesus Christ in His character, in His mind, in His heart, and in His body. This is a life long process of spiritual disciplines. At San Gabriel, it is our goal to have each person become a fully committed follower and disciple of Jesus Christ.

fellowshipIn following and obeying Jesus, we are called to be in close fellowship with other believers. It means being a committed member of Christ's church. The idea of fellowship, or "koinonia" in Greek, is having communion, communication, and community with one another in and through a relationship with Jesus Christ. The best expression of fellowship is that of a family. The church is the family of God, called together through the saving work of Jesus Christ. The Christian life is not just a matter of believing. It is matter of belonging, and you and I must choose to belong. Fellowship begins with belonging, with making that commitment. Just as God wants you to identify with Christ by believing, God wants you to belong to a local body of believers and to be a part of His family. We invite you to become part of the San Gabriel church family.

worshipWhen someone asked Jesus what is the greatest command for our lives, Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." This is the heart of worship. Worship is our primary response as a human being to God. We worship God for who God is and what He has done. God the Creator, the Rescuer, and the Redeemer initiates our response to Him. The Bible teaches us that we love because God first loved us (1 John 4:19). God's wondrous acts, like creation, the Exodus, the Passover, and the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, all evoke a response. That proper response is worship. At San Gabriel, we seek to respond to God's grace, faithfulness, and love with excellent worship.
